Shinedown formed in 2001 in Jacksonville, Florida, and released their debut album, Leave a Whisper, in July of 2003. Their acoustic cover of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic "Simple Man" jolted the band to popularity and was later made a tribute to Dimebag Darrel during performances. Shinedown has released two additional albums since their debut, with Us and Them released in 2005 and The Sound of Madness released in 2008. The band currently consists of Brent Smith on lead vocals, Zach Myers on guitar/backup vocals, Eric Bass on (you guessed it) bass guitar/piano/backup vocals, and Barry Kerch on drums.
