This rock band emerged from Boston into the early New Wave music scene in the late 1970s and was signed to Elektra Records in 1977. The Cars were at the forefront in merging 1970s guitar-centered rock with the new synth-oriented pop that was becoming popular. Their self-titled debut album went platinum in 1978 and was called a "genuine rock masterpiece" by allmusic. The Cars went on to release six more studio albums, with the most recent, Move Like This, scheduled to be released this upcoming May.
